Sacramento Marketing hosted our first ever Women's conference on February 9th. We invited the top female managers in our organization to come and speak and share their stories. It was a heart filled night and it was inspiring to hear everything they went through and how it got them to where they are now. Although we’ve come a long way throughout history by gaining the right to work and vote, there is still an obvious gender bias that lingers within the workplace – whether it’s a man benefiting more from small talk than women, the temperature of the office being set to the average male comfort or the pay equality that women still face. Women are especially discriminated against when it comes to pregnancy. Many women are afraid of starting a family knowing that their career will most likely be affected. In fact, The Guardian reports that approximately 50,000 women per year lose their jobs as the result of a pregnancy or having had a child, while many female workers return to work only to realize that their job duties have changed or that they can no longer progress within their role. It is because of all these troubles that working women go through that we decided to host this women’s empowerment conference. We wanted to provide an environment where women can share their stories and empower one another and show that even with the odds against them it is possible to be successful whether it be in our business or another one. The conference was also a great opportunity for some of our client representatives to network with some of the top managers in our organization. Overall the conference was a great experience and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
